Guide on Rules
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤
Hopefully this will be helpful. Being a guide, this is not meant to replace the rules, and should be read alongside it.
Where possible, there are examples.
In examples, we'll use the users: Adam, Bob, and Carl [A, B, C], and moderators: Xypher, Yaerila, and Zealot [X, Y, Z]
So, we'll start with the rules:
Quote:
1 - No Spamming
No Spamming.
Posting/repeating same thing:
- using the same introductory paragraph each time you post [generally using the sames lines to describe your character]
- copying+pasting paragraphs from one post to another
- reposting an old post with minor editing [post in RP request boards if you want an old/unanswered thread revived]
Plagiarism:
- copying from another source [eg: copy+paste with little/no editing]
- using someone else's work [eg: lyrics from songs are not allowed, even if you have your character is singing it and you credit the source. Same for books etc]
--though copying entire verses is considered illegal, using single lines are acceptable
{Posts should be your work}
General nonsense:
- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa [obvious spam]
- (sentence).... (sentence)............... (word)................. (word).................. [excessive use of punctuation to boost character count]
- ~~~#~~~@~~~#~~~ [ridiculously long paragraph separators]
- posting irrelevant material in character journals. They are journals, to record experiences and thoughts, not a doodling pad, or a place to upload stories/poetry you've written. Try the talent boards for that.
Double posting:
- please report it as soon as you realise the mistake.
- double posts shouldn't go through unless you've edited the post before submitting it again.
Quote:
2 - No Harassment
This rule is taken very seriously, this is what you need to know:
- unless the situation is extreme, moderators will not know you feel harassed. So YOU must make it clear you feel you're being harassed AND they continue the harassment
Example: everyone makes fun of Bob's unoriginal name, he has enough and in his signature states "Please refrain from ridiculing my name, or it will constitute harassment."
Carl can't help himself and makes fun of Bob. Bob reports Carl. Carl finds his profile updated by a friendly member of the moderating team.
Also, this means you do not run a search on someone's post history, comb through every post they made, and report every minor thing that might be a rule infraction.
Remember that obvious and general social rules are to be observed. Anything said/done with obvious intent at harassment, or can be viewed as such by the average user, will most likely constitute harassment.
Quote:
3 - No God-Moding/Power-Playing
Godmoding is controlling another's character.
Powerplaying is being all powerful.
Godmoding
- the difference between "Adam hits Bob in the head" and "Adam attacks, aiming for Bob's head"
- you cannot force another character to take a hit, or say certain words, without permission
- permission can be an OOC comment (preferred), or over PM; IM conversations and verbal agreements are of little use, for your own safety, get it in writing.
- this includes reading minds, delving into memories, knowing things about them they have not revealed.
- companions are also protected from godmoding, whereas NPCs are not
Powerplaying:
- you may not have immunities, resistances are acceptable
- having resistances [usually] implies also having vulnerabilities
- race/class/items combinations may give you advantages in certain areas and situations, but you still cannot dodge every attack and take no damage etc.
- for T0 purposes, resistance to anything cannot exceed 80%, overall, everything ought to balance out
Quote:
4 - Battle
- Read the Battle Methods FAQ
- The default style is T0, if you prefer something else, make it clear [OOC comment or state it in your signature]
Quote:
5 - Companions/Items
- You may have basic clothing when you start. They should be nondescript. Nondescript meaning you do not spend paragraphs describing them.
- When substituting, the item retains the stats of the item used to substitute for purposes of T0 battles. [eg: Bob substitutes dagger for kriss. Carl substitutes daemonic sword for kriss. Carl's kriss is stronger.]
-- If Admin then adds kriss to the shops. Bob and Carl must purchase the kriss to use it in future RPs.
-- Bob picks up a branch in the forest, pokes into random burrows. It snaps within 2~3 posts. [acceptable]
-- Bob picks up a branch in the forest. He journeys the world with it and slays many an unfortunate orc. [unacceptable - buy a staff]
- You may not substitute an item that already exists {eg: sword for katana}
-- This includes harder to obtain items.
Remember, any item you use in an RP, must remain on that account for at least one month.
[!] Exception: if you acquire an item for the exclusive purpose of giving to someone else (as a gift), you may RP that item in a single post where the gift changes hands.
Quote:
6 - One Character Per Username
- Do not have multiple characters. If your child's post can stand alone, s/he/it should have his/her/its own account.
- Do not have NPCs following you around everywhere, same idea as the stick in the forest, use them then leave them.
- Do not get too attached to NPCs, or go deeply into their past/personality. Think of them as 2-D props, and remember anyone can control NPCs.
- For split personalities, and hearing voices in your head, keep it to a minimum. Better yet, purchase a pet/companion to communicate with.
Quote:
7 - No Advertising
- ask if unsure
Quote:
8 - OOC Discussion
We do not have any set number on this, but as a guideline:
- anything over 65 words in a 500+ word post is too much;
- and over 10-15 words in a 50-100 word post.
Quote:
9 - Foul Language
Quote:
10 - RP Realistically
- also be careful with how your character dresses, speaks, what they eat/drink and so forth.
- avoid mentioning names of real life places
- no time travelling
-- you cannot be sent back from the future
-- you cannot come from a more technologically advanced world
Quote:
11 - Do Not PM Questions
- note that private matters [such as harassment] can be dealt with over PM
{email/IM are equally unwelcome, simply post in the help forum, you actually get a faster response =O}
Quote:
12 - Topic Flags
- unless stated otherwise, [R]
[Q] all mark the thread as private, get permission before posting
- to make an open thread with an R rating, or open quest, use [R][Open] | [Q][Open] etc.
- R is equivilant to 15+
- please follow instructions/warnings issued by moderators where applicable
- as not all threads are monitored all the time, do not rely on moderators as your sole indicator of inappropriate content
{if you have to question anything as inappropriate, then chances are it is or could be taken that way, so ask or simply don't do it}
- [L:#] the # sets an upper limit on users allowed in the topic, including the topic starter. So, L:2 means only 1 other person may join.
- try previewing before posting to make sure someone hasn't posted while you were writing yours
Quote:
13 - Smilies/Emoticons
Please, PLEASE don't use these in RPs.
Quote:
14 - Signature and Avatar Images
- also note that images should not be offensive/pornographic in nature
Quote:
15 - FAQ
- read them, seriously.
Quote:
16 - Glitches and Errors
- this is taken as seriously as spamming. If something feels wrong, please report it.
- this rule encompasses abuse of any and all services and features of Eulona. Including, but not limited to:
-- experience/gold systems
-- shops
Quote:
17 - Race Combinations
Races must be in factorials of 2. This means 1/2, 1/4th etc. You cannot have a 1/3rd of a race... Anything over 1/4th is too much.
Quote:
18 - Multiple Languages
- another form of spamming, only post once, and in English.
- your character may speak in a foreign language if it adds to the RP
-- do not translate within the RP
-- keep foreign speech minimal, as a guide, no more than 5 lines
- 'leet speak' is not a language
-- clarification: do not use 'leet speak' in RPs
Quote:
19 - RPing with Yourself
- do not bump up unanswered RP posts, use the RP requests board.
- do not post right after yourself, even with another account.
- this applies to families members/friends that use the same computer, you'll be treated as one person
-- For example, let's say that Adam and Bob are both RPed by the same person, and they want to do an RP with a third character, Carl. They would have to organise the RP like this:
A
C
B
C
A
C
B
C
and so on.
Quote:
20 - Debates
Quote:
21 - Gods, Goddesses and Guardians
--Only describe these as the one true God.
-- even if your definition of God is different, try using other words do define your character
-- this extends to "DemiGod"
- you cannot worship gods other than God.
Quote:
22 - Post Length
- word count function in programs such as MS Word is more accurate than the Eulona one {if there is no BBcode}
-- BBCode is deducted from word and character counts
-- Anything within quotes or code BBCode is deducted from word and character counts
-- Multiple spaces are automatically reducted to a single space
- try doing a word count with the OOC part removed if your post is barely clearing the minimum requirement
- be aware of which area you're posting in
- make sure you know the temple/shrine requirements before posting in them
Quote:
23 - Age Limit
{applicable to anyone who is not a current or former G/G/G}
- no numerical age over 3000 years
- no age descriptions that can be interpreted as over 3000 years (eg. as old as time)
- unknown is accepted, as well as leaving the field blank
- do not have 'Unaging' or 'Immortal', they also breach the godmoding/powerplaying rule
Quote:
24 - Naming Policy
Names are not to be comprised of all captial letters. This includes avoiding the filters by using spaces or other characters:
- Example: H_E_L_L_O
¤
Remember to post in the help forum when seeking clarification on rules and other Eulona issues.
Please note that although anyone can respond to your query, getting confirmation from a moderator or administrator before acting is generally best.
Moderators are identifiable by the word "Moderator" under their avatar, and a green name on the online list (and in the chatroom).
Also note that moderator decisions can be overturned by an administrator {Asrial Redleaf}.
The word of the administrators is final.
